A classic fantasy novel and children's favourite. The hero is a Hobbit - Bilbo Baggins, who against his natural instinct finds himself on a real adventure.
He has to use his nouse to survive the likes of trolls, goblins, a strange forest and - yes - a dragon! He has a strong desire to stay alive, and also help his friends, and this keeps him going.
The book is written in the third person by Tolkien, and has great detail and shows strong imagination as he creates a completely foreign world. The book is quite long, but gripping enough that you will read it quickly.
If you like fantasy novels, then this is a must read.
