Sophie's World is a wonderful novel, that condenses thousands of years of thought into a few hundred pages.
Using the clever fantasy of the travels of young girl Sophie (lover of wisdom), Gaardner leads us through all the major schools and ideas of philosophy, from the ancient Greek through to much more modern ideas. We are introduced to the ideas of Aristotle, Plato, Socrates, Locke, Hobbes, Hume, Kant, Kierkegaard, Heidegger, Rousseau and many, many more philosophers.
This is an intriguing novel - not only is the story itself compelling, but also the ideas it introduces will fascinate you, and make you want to find out more.
As an introduction to philosophy and its ideas in a simple, accessible format, this book is a must read.
