From time to time people, in times where vanity is called for, do put their best foot forward. But what is the origin of this phrase?
Well, for a change, it is actually the common sense thought that seems to be true about this one - it literally does refer to the best foot!
In the old days when people were vain, even compared to these times, some people decided that one foot was better than the other and would stand so that their better foot was displayed, they would literally put their best foot forward!
