If you ever say something that you didn't really mean to, then you have made a Freudian Slip. Often you say the opposite of what you mean or make an unfortunate slip such as saying the word 'sex' instead of 'six' or something like that.
So what is the origin of the Freudian Slip then?
Well, it is indeed related to Sigmund Freud, for whom anything that was a little verbal slip and innocuous to the normal person was sometimes interpreted as being of great significance to Freud, hence being called a Freudian Slip.
