Ever heard the phrase get your goat or get one's goat?
Basically this is something that annoys you slightly for whatever reason.
The phrase comes from the fact that goats were supposed to be able to soothe a race horse for some reason.
Now when the horse had got used to the goat being around, it got rather upset if the goat left, and apparently in some strange way therefore if someone annoys you then they have got your goat, like the person who took the goat away from the poor little horsey that was soothed until the horse was there, the nasty little person!
And yes that's the origin of the phrase.
Do you believe it? Well it's one explanation and let's be honest it sounds a little far fetched so I would say it's a possible candidate but not as certain as most of the origins on these pages.
