One of the major jobs of a manager is performance control. You should explain both adverse and favorable variances in your performance variables. If you do not investigate to find out the reasons for the negative variance, particularly, if you are appraised by your director, it will be your fault if you are marked poorly. You should analyse and bring out all factors contributing to the adverse performance. Some of the factors are organizational and some are environmental. You should prove that the factors that militated against you were uncontrollable, then you can get your full or near full marks.
