She is a well known snob and looks down on most people around her. She is a lady of status, or so she likes to think, and therefore she really does try to keep up appearances at all times.
In contrast her sisters Rose and Daisy are nothing like her and are portrayed more as slobs rather than snobs, therefore she often tries to distance herself from them.
A lot of comedy comes from the fact that most people around her are normal and want a quiet life whilst Hyacinth always wants the very best for herself and her family and to portray herself as well to do and well connected.
