Famous character created by A A Milne and much loved by children. Infact Winnie is perhaps one of the most famous fictional characters for children ever created, and is often simply called Pooh. Once he is called Edward Bear.
He is a very old character, and first appeared in 1926 in a book that was called Winnie-the-Pooh. One random claim to fame is that the Latin book was featured in a best seller list for the New York Times!
The illustrations originally drawn of Winnie the Pooh were by E H Shepard of this most famous of bear characters.
