Quotes:

'It went beyond idealism and that ridiculous term activism, which basically means talking about something but doing nothing. We made giving exciting.'

I may be known as the girl who was sunbathing topless with a Prínce but Jordan is known as that thick girl who always falls out of clubs drunk. I know which one I prefer.

I've just bought myself a G-string - which is rather fun.

On The Insider: 'I was at 220 pounds and bald as a badger for four months, which made socialising next to impossible, folks. I was a lonely guy; not a good look at all.'

'Six months before he died, my grand-father came to Australia to try to explain to me that he was dying. I was a young kid, very much into myself at the time. I was busking on the streets just to make enough money to pay my rent, There was this Japanese restaurant I'd always wanted to eat at but couldn't afford, so I suggested we go there.' It was an unfortunate choice. In Weans' weakened condition, the smell of the rice and soya sauce brought back memories of the Second World War. 'We couldn't have the talk he wanted to,' says Crowe. 'The day he died, I was in the kitchen of a flat in Woollarah, (an eastern suburb of Sydney). 'Suddenly a kookaburra bird flew in the window. It just looked at me. I knew my grandfather had died. I phoned home and my mother confirmed it. 'I insisted the bird was my grandfather's spirit, but my mom would have nothing of it.' One day last year, Crowe had a dream in which he was holding his mother and she was crying. He phoned home immediately. 'My mother said a woman who had worked closely with my grandfather had come to visit and, without prompting, had told her that on the day my grandfather died a bird had visited her as well. 'Learning this had reduced my mother to tears.' Crowe says he believes that 'with all this talk of angels, maybe they are just birds sent to us by those who have crossed over.' Except the blind forces of Nature, nothing moves in this world which is not Greek in its origin.
View quotes by Sir Henry Maine

The past exudes legend: one can't make pure clay of time's mud. There is no life that can be recaptured wholly; as it was. Which is to say that all biography is ultimately fiction.
View quotes by Bernard Malamud

Cricket - a game which the English, not being a spiritual people, have invented in order to give themselves some conception of eternity.
View quotes by Lord ( Baron) Mancroft

Leave those vain moralists, my friend, and return to the depth of your soul: that is where you will always rediscover the source of the sacred fire which so often inflamed us with love of the sublime virtues; that is where you will see the eternal image of true beauty, the contemplation of which inspires us with a holy enthusiasm. (La Nouvelle Heloise)

I don't think we've been influenced massively by our success and by our travels. The lyrics [singer Chris Martin] writes are more basic than that, more basic, emotional ideas rather than life experiences. There's probably a few lines in there which reflect what's happened in the last year or so, but it's hard to say
View quotes by Guy Berryman

'I'm really into moderation. Too much of anything will harm you in the end. Too much sugar. Too much pasta. I'm into drugs as a teaching tool, which is why I only take hallucinogenics. I mean, it's not like I've never done cocaine, but, on the whole, if I can't see dancing elephants then I'm not interested.'

'I'm a daughter of a minister and I love chasing the dark. That which is hidden. I like licking it like ice cream'

All my Aunties hated me as a child and they refused to look after me. I used to put bleach into milk bottles and I once flushed my Mum's wedding ring down the toilet. She never found it again! I also cut my own hair the day before Communion because I had a horrible bowl hairdo which swept to the side. My Mum wasn't happy

I'm only two years older than Brad Pitt, but I look a lot older, which used to greatly frustrate me. It doesn't anymore. I don't have to fit into that category and get trounced by Tom Cruise and Brad.

My face is so pretty, you don't see a scar, which proves I'm the king of the ring by far.

Who's ever going to write a film in which I get the girl? Me!

'I have a big, flamboyant, open personality, which I think is why people may be saying these nice things about me.'
View quotes by Kate Hudson

I'm voting for Gore because the other is unthinkable. Which most of us will probably do. I hope all of us. I've always liked Ralph Nader and would like to see a real third party, but the thought of George Bush as president is unthinkable.

Honestly, I like everything. Boyish girls, girlish boys, the thick, the thin. Which is a problem when I'm walking down the street.

Tyndall, I must remain plain Michael Faraday to the last; and let me now tell you, that if I accepted the honour which the Royal Society desires to confer upon me, I would not answer for the integrity of my intellect for a single year. (On being offered the presidency of the Royal Society)

With thanks to God we know the way to heaven, to be as ready by water as by land, and therefore we care not which way we go. (When threatened with drowning by Henry VIII)

I saw also that there was an ocean of darkness and death, but an infinite ocean of light and love, which flowed over the ocean of darkness. (Journal)

Human speech is like a cracked kettle on which we tap crude rhythms for bears to dance to, while we long to make music that will melt the stars (Madame Bovary)

"My school days were the happiest days of my life; which should give you some indication of the misery I've endured over the past twenty-five years."

We live in what virtually amounts to a museum - which does not happen to a lot of people.

Family makes me feel there's a reason I'm alive... I'm feeling my life, which I didn't always do partly because I'd be drunk a lot.

I submit that the traditional definition of psychiatry, which is still vogue, places it alongside such things as alchemy and astrology, and commits it to the category of pseudo-science.
View quotes by Thomas Szasz

Time has three dimensions and one positive pitch or direction. It is therefore not so much like any river or any sea as like the Sea of Galilee, which has the Jordan running through it and giving a current to the whole.
