Word game rules
The rules of the game are quite simple. It is a fun game of logic so you'll need your wits about you to work out the best strategy to win!
The computer will generate a six letter word, for instance "steady"
You will then have 5 guesses to work out what the word is. You start with a two letter word guess, then a three letter guess and so on, right up to guessing the word itself.
You receive a score after each round as follows:
- For each letter that you guess correctly in the word, that is in the correct position in the word up to the length of your guess, you score 1000 points. e.g. if you guess 'SO' for the example 'steady', you will receive 1000 points for the 's' matching both the letter 's' in steady and being at the same position, position 1.
- You cannot get points for letters in position 3 - 6 in the word with your 2 letter guess, position 4 - 6 in your 3 letter guess, 5 - 6 in your four letter guess or position 6 with your five letter guess.
- For each letter that you guess correctly in the word, but that is in the incorrect position, you score 250 points. So, if you guess 'TO' for 'steady', you get 250 points, as there is a 'T' in 'steady' but at position two, not one.
-
You cannot score more than 1000 points for an individual letter in your guess more. Thus if the word the computer thought of was 'tweeze' and you guessed 'twee' at the four letter stage, the 'e' at position 3 for score 1000 (not more as you do not get the points for there also being an 'e' at position 4). Similarly for the 'e' at position 4.
-
If the letter is not in the correct position, you will score 250 points every time it occurs in th500 points, as the 'e' scores 250 at positions 3 and 4.
The aim of the game is to score as many points as you possibly can, and to guess the correct word in the process.
It's not for the faint-hearted and requires skill and determination. The first few times you play the game you will probably have no clue what the answer is. Good luck!
